Isabella Kwai
I’m a writer and journalist based in London for the New York Times. I cover global stories in Europe and Asia-Pacific, including migration, climate change, natural disasters and geopolitics.
I love telling stories about people’s obsessions big and small — and what they reveal about a moment in time, or a place’s identity. Some recent memorable stories: surfing with girls for a dispatch about sport’s popularity in Britain, interviewing spies accused of Russian espionage in Albania, exploring a gun violence epidemic in Sweden, and embedding with Hong Kongers immigrating to London.
Before being based in London, I was based in Australia where I focused on covering the area’s changing culture and identity. I’ve also written for The Atlantic and graduated from Duke University with a major in public policy and English.
I’m passionate about finding new and innovative ways to share stories with global audiences. Please reach out if you want to connect!
